Puidukoda Acquires Stora Enso’s Näpi Sawmill

December 21, 2023

We are happy announce the completion of the acquisition of the Stora Enso Näpi sawmill. The transaction includes all the land and buildings used by the former Näpi sawmill, as well as equipment related to wood processing, excluding the sawmill’s machinery.

This strategic acquisition allows us to significantly increase its production capacity, ensuring expansion opportunities in international export markets while providing employment for local residents.

“The situation in the wood sector has presented various challenges in recent years, but we believe in the long-term growth of wood usage. Expanding production capacity in wood processing, both in planing and painting, will help strengthen our position in existing markets and gain new ones. We have a strong team that will also support the launch of the new factory,” said Eveli Opmann, CEO of Puidukoda OÜ.

Bertrand Yraeta,CEO of the French Groupe Rose owner of Puidukoda OÜ, stated, “The investment is made in challenging market conditions, but it is primarily made with a long-term perspective in mind. Estonia has a certain advantage due to its location, as wood grows in this region and is well exportable worldwide.”

“The decision to close Näpi mill was announced in June this year, one of several actions to improve Stora Enso Group’s long-term competitiveness and profitability. We are very pleased to have come to an agreement with Puidukoda, who will give the mill the attention it deserves and ensure a long-term development of the business,” says Lars Völkel, Executive Vice President, Stora Enso division Wood Products.
